What is your job role?

Director & Mortgage Adviser

What is your favourite meal to cook?

So many to choose from! I am a massive fan of a one-pot dish (limited washing up!) so something like a chicken, ham & leek pie would be up there as a favourite.

If you suddenly had 25 hour days, how would you use your extra time?

See more of my daughter and sleep longer!

If you had to play one album forever, what would it be?

Something upbeat and timeless. Tina Turner would have to be up there for Proud Mary alone.

Of all the places you’ve travelled to, what was your favourite and why?

Lapland with the family. Meeting Santa Claus in his home with my daughter was truly magical.

What is your favourite family tradition?

Watching The Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve as a family – love it!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Helping dreams come true – to be part of that journey with a client is a real honour.

What is something you find challenging about your work?

Paperwork and lack of time to get it done. Being regulated means there is so much to be done behind the scenes which is often challenging.

What is your job role?

Financial Planner

What did you want to be when you were younger?

Football or a cricket manager.

What is your favourite food?

Definitely curry, ideally the Railway Lamb from Dabbawals!

What is the most embarrassing injury you’ve received?

I broke my ankle when being run over by my best friend. I hobbled home to watch Match of the Day and only later realised it was broken in several places.

What is your greatest inspiration?

My faith in Jesus. I love Easter where we celebrate his sacrifice for us on the cross.

What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?

Other than my family (there are four of them so it would be tricky to know which one to leave behind!), I would bring my bible, hockey stick and a ball.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love helping clients understand their financial situation better and their relief when they know they are going to be okay. I also feel we add real value when we help people enjoy spending their hard earned capital rather than feeling guilty when using it. We have three choices with our money – spend it now, spend it later or give it away. Our job is to help people make wise decisions about what they want to do combined with what they can afford to do.

What is something you find challenging about your work?

Paperwork. Remembering there are people at the end of the paper definitely helps, but this is certainly a “work in progress”.

What is your job role?

Financial Planner and Director of Co-Navigate

Who is your favourite author?

If I’m reading to switch off then I love a Lee Child or Michael Connelly book. I have just recently read Power of Geography and Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall which are fascinating books, especially in light of current events in Ukraine.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I don’t like this question at all, as I’m such a foodie and I love variety! My favourite meal of the year though is Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings, so let’s say that. I don’t think I’d ever get bored of pigs in blankets.

Apart from your own jokes, what makes you laugh the most?

A good comedian. I love attending live stand-up shows and have been fortunate to see Billy Connelly twice, and he is the godfather of comedy.

What is your favourite family tradition?

Going for a family walk on a Sunday morning in the countryside. We have an elderly neighbour who has a border collie that we started walking at the beginning of lockdown to help him out. We’ve kept on doing that and it’s a great excuse to get the kids out of the house in the morning and get some fresh air.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Definitely starting Co-Navigate. There were some real hurdles we had to jump over initially, but to see where we are today and to look back and see how far we’ve come is phenomenal. I get really excited when we discuss where we want the business to go and how we’re going to achieve it, so there’s still lots of hard work ahead.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

This is going to sound like a cliché, but helping clients achieve their life goals. When someone initially comes to us for advice they are generally expecting help with pensions and investments, but through a process of discovery and ongoing meetings we discover what they really want out of life and ensure their pensions and investments are aligned to those outcomes. To be able to put a plan into place that helps to get them there is literally life changing for them; how can I not enjoy that?

What is something you find challenging about your work?

Technology. I absolutely love tech when it works and helps our clients and Co-Navigate operate more efficiently, and as such I’m always on the lookout for new developments. However, no one piece of software can solve all of the problems, so you end up with different suppliers of tech doing different things, and getting them to talk to each other seamlessly is a constant frustration. It’s like an impossible jigsaw at times.

Fiona McCulloch

What is your job role?

Mortgage & Protection Assistant

Where is the most beautiful place you’ve visited?

Definitely the Amalfi Coast in Italy! It’s just so picturesque.

If you were a film character, who would you be and why?

Probably Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prada (my favourite film). Who wouldn’t want free designer clothes?!

Can you play any instruments?

Just a few! We’re quite a musical family so I’ve played the cornet, clarinet, piano and guitar. My sister played the tenor horn and violin too, so it was never quiet in our house.

Do you have any regrets?

I don’t really regret anything, because if things hadn’t happened the way they did I wouldn’t be where I am now – with my husband, in my new house and in a job that I love.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?

I play board games online with some friends once a week. It started during the pandemic and we’ve just kept going since. We play in person now too.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love helping clients going from the first steps of buying their first/next home to getting the keys in their hand. It’s great to be part of a major life event with clients.

What’s something you find challenging about your work?

Whenever a chain falls through for sales/purchases, it’s always quite sad to hear. I can empathise with our clients as that has happened to me too.

Financial Planning Assistant.

Apart from sports, what do you do in your spare time?

We have a 1 year old golden Labrador that tends to keep us busy!

What would your pet say about you if they could talk?

I think they would tell me I’m their favourite human in the house.

What is your greatest fear?

Definitely spiders.

What’s a pet peeve you would make illegal if you could?

When people leave crumbs or bits of toast in the butter 🥴

Which is your favourite of the golf courses you’ve played at?

It is really tough to say. I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of great golf courses, with my home course being one of them. It would have to be either Muirfield or the Old Course at St. Andrews. I don’t think I can pick one!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working with our clients. They always give us a good laugh during meetings!

What’s something you find challenging about your work?

I think I speak on behalf of the team when I say Jamie’s sense of humour has to be the biggest challenge!

Brenda Bailey

What is your job role?

Financial Planning Assistant

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?

Spending time with my family, especially my grandson.

What’s your favourite theatre show?

Mamma Mia – it’s fun, you can sing along and it makes you smile.

Where is your favourite holiday destination, and why?

The Algarve in Portugal. As well as being a beautiful place, it’s the first place we went on our own after our daughters had grown up.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?

Painting. I would love to be able to paint landscapes.

What are some causes that you care about?

Macmillan Nurses, Breast Cancer Care, Alzheimer’s Society are all causes close to my heart.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working with a great team, we all get on really well.

What is something you find challenging about your work?

Spending time ‘on hold’ when trying to contact providers.

Stuart Rodgers

What is your job role?

Trainee Mortgage & Protection Adviser

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

I would love to see real life dinosaurs! Wouldn’t want to get too close though. Maybe if Jurassic Park becomes a reality I’ll get my chance.

If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do with the money?

Fly to Hawaii and spend the next month on the beach sipping cocktails from coconuts, in my floral shirt and hula skirt.

What is the top item on your bucket list?

There are quite a few items left on my list, but skydiving has to be at the top. I am not great with jumping off diving boards though so I might need a push to get out of the plane.

Finish this sentence – On Sunday mornings you can usually find me…

full from breakfast and out walking the dog along the beach or through the park. Usually thinking about what’s for lunch!

Flashback to when you were in primary school – what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was really young I always wanted to be a Power Ranger. Jason the Red Ranger to be exact. I even told people that was my name.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The team I work with. We all get on so well and love to have a laugh. No day is boring and there are always people there to support you when you need help.

What do you find challenging about your work?

In the protection aspect of my role, we have to have some frank conversations with people about death and illness, which isn’t a particularly pleasant thing to think about. But it is all made easier knowing that we have helped to protect those families at the end of it all.

Daniel Fenton

What is your job role?

Financial Planning Assistant

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

My party trick is the moonwalk, so I’ll say that. As for hobbies, football (watching) and running (trying) are my go to.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Night owl, definitely. You’re lucky to find me with my eyes open before 11am on a weekend.

What is your favourite band and why?

Has to be ABBA. If Gimme, Gimme, Gimme doesn’t get you in the mood, what will?

Which famous figure would you most like to meet and why?

I’ll have to say Christopher Lee. An actor in my favourite films (Lord of the Rings) and also being an inspiration behind the character James Bond. It would be absolutely fascinating listening to the hundreds of stories he would have from his time in the war to his acting career.

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Waking up just before midday with a full English breakfast, taking the dogs out for a walk with the sun shining. Then sitting in the garden with some friends waiting for Arsenal to put 6 past Tottenham. Follow that up with a BBQ and some beers and I’d say you have the perfect day.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Attending client meetings. It’s been great being able to see who it is you’re helping and getting to know clients on a personal level. It’s nice to have a face to the name on the report!

What do you find challenging about your work?

Not challenging per se, but being new to paraplanning there are a lot of new processes to learn, and following the financial planning journey from the first contact to the implementation stage is a new experience.

What is your position at Co-Navigate?

Financial Planning Assistant

When did you start work at Co-Navigate?

July 2017

What was your experience before working here?

I moved to Co-Navigate straight after school after completing my A-levels at Berwick Academy and heard about the job. I started working with Lyndsey in the mortgage side of the business.

What attracted you to Co-Navigate?

At the time it seemed like the right place. As I was living in Berwick and when you’re from there you can either go to Edinburgh or Newcastle for work as they’re about an hour away. I was looking for an apprenticeship and I met the directors and they seemed really nice.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I get to work with some very interesting people both as colleagues and as clients. You get to hear about all sorts of things: where they have been, what they want to do in the future and being part of that is a fantastic.

Favourite colour

Green

Favourite music

I tend to listen to radio. I usually listen to Radio 1, although I’m a fan of Coldplay.

Hobbies and interests

My big hobby is golf. I’m a 3 handicap and at the moment I play about 5 times a week. It’s pretty much what I do outside of work. I have won 3 times this year, since lockdown. I play in individual events and have been playing for a while. But I have only been playing competitively for just over a year. This summer I was going to start playing in team events and leagues, but because of lockdown that hasn’t happened yet. I’m also a big football fan and support Glasgow Celtic. I used to play but I don’t do that anymore.

May 2019

What was your experience before working here?

I hadn’t been in financial services before. My job before I came here was at an asbestos company. I was there for 2 years working on projects and arranging surveyors to test for asbestos in buildings. It was very different to being here!

What attracted you to Co-Navigate?

There was a job advertisement for the position on Facebook. When I spotted it and read about what was needed I thought, ‘That sounds like me!’ I contacted Lyndsey and I was successful.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I like that every day is different and everything is fast-paced and it keeps me on my toes. I love working here because everyone is so caring and they look out for each other.

I love music from musicals. My favourite musical is Wicked.
